Introducing Life & Performance Coaching at HUBIO

Helping employees be and do their best is critical to any company’s success. That’s why HUBIO’s Leadership Team recently brought on board a Life & Performance Coach as part of our Employee Benefits program.

The Covid-19 pandemic has exacted a cost on our people—in energy, focus, and connecting with one another. Add the growing pains of transforming from a traditional insurance software company to a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Insurtech—and the potential benefits of a Life Coach became more obvious.

“As our operating model changes, we need to adapt our talent needs and organizational structure,” says HUBIO’s Chief Technology Officer, Nicholas Yee. “We have a solid foundation in our existing team and investing in a Life and Performance Coaching program has the potential to help our people individually and improve on a positive high-performance team culture.”

No off-the-shelf program
"We consulted with the Coach about establishing a long-term program that enables more meaningful individual reflection and lasting team impact, rather than short-term training sessions. Our leadership team wants a program with depth and sustained change,” says Nick. “One that’s custom-made, and will help us focus, re-energize and re-connect, especially as HUBIO transforms itself.”

Powerful potential benefits
Life and Performance coaching can be a powerful tool. Potential benefits include helping people improve their mindset and emotional intelligence to hopefully lead to a work environment where trust, collaboration and performance are valued. “Our leadership team wants a culture where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves,” says Nick, “and is encouraging more open communication. We’re a
small organization, more like a family in some ways. Our investment in a Life Coach reflects in part how important we value our connections with one another.”

Developing a common language
“The coaching is helping me understand the importance of having a common language,” reveals Nick. “From job performance to how each of us can improve personally, the coaching helps us describe behaviours and emotions in common terms, which then allows us to discuss more openly about some topics that would have normally been swept under the rug.”

Investing in people
As HUBIO evolves, we will continue to strive to make our company one of the best places to work. We truly believe that an environment that cultivates passion, teamwork, and personal and professional growth increases our ability to attract and retain the right people. “Providing the opportunity to meet with a Life and Performance Coach has the potential to be an excellent long-term investment in our people,” notes Nick. “We’re a forward-thinking company that values our people and wants to help them become active stakeholders in the building of our culture.”
